The different types of Roulette

2017-03-28 11:19:16

Roulette is one of the most popular casino games around and believe it or not, this game has been around since the late 17th century! The roulette cylinder was created in France by a physicist named Blaise Pascal who was looking to create a perpetual motion machine rather than a fun gambling game! There are actually a few variations of roulette that exist today and the main ones are European and American roulette. These games differ by the wheels and sometimes roulette tables that are used.

American Roulette

The main difference between this form of roulette and others is that it features an additional number: “00”. This is quite significant as it increases the house’s advantage as it provides more numbers on the wheel for players to pick and choose from. Basically, there is more money to be lost than won when additional numbers are added to a roulette wheel. The odds for this form of roulette are 1 to 38. The house edge for this type of roulette is usually 5.2%. Another interesting feature of this game is that the numbers on the wheel are placed in sequential order. For instance, the number 00 is placed right across the wheel from 0. The sequence of numbers looks like this on a standard American roulette wheel: 0, 2,14, 35, 23, 4, 16, 33, 21, 6, 18, 31, 19, 8, 12, 29, 25, 10, 27, 00, 1, 13, 36, 24, 3, 15, 34, 22, 5, 17, 32, 20, 7, 11, 30, 26, 9, 28.

European Roulette

Since roulette originated in France, this is by far the most authentic version that players can play. The numbers on a European roulette wheel range from 0 to 36 and it does not contain the “00” number found on American wheels thus providing a better chance at winning when playing this form of roulette rather than American roulette. European roulette offers odds of 1 to 37 and the numbers on the wheel are placed randomly unlike the American version. When playing European roulette, the odds of winning increase but a side-effect of this is that the stakes decrease by quite a bit. The house edge for this type of roulette is quite low at 2.7% when compared to the American version. What this means for the player is that you will get smaller losses should you lose while playing this version of roulette. The number sequence on a European roulette wheel looks like this: 26, 3, 35, 12, 28, 7, 29, 18, 22, 9, 31, 14, 20, 1, 33, 16, 24, 5, 10, 23, 8, 30, 11, 36, 13, 27, 6, 34, 17, 25, 2, 21, 4, 19, 15, and 32.

Other forms of Roulette

There are quite a few other variations of roulette out there such as Rapid and Immersive roulette. These forms of roulette enable players to bet over the internet while interacting with a live dealer all with crisp sound and various HD camera angles. It has become extremely popular in recent years and the main pull of this type of roulette is that players can spend far more time placing virtual bets rather than placing physical bets in a real casino. So get yourself to a roulette table now and get that wheel spinning!
