This game is based on the legend of King Arthur so naturally, comes with a medieval look and theme. For those that do not know, Avalon is a mysterious island where King Arthur's famous sword Excalibur was forged and it is also the place where Arthur would return to from battle to heal his wounds.

It is a 5 reel slot game with 20 paylines and includes features such as not just one but two Wild symbols as well as Free Spins and a Gamble mode.

Special Features

The first interesting feature of this game is that there are in fact two Wild symbols. The first one is an Avalon symbol and this substitutes for all other symbols except the Lady of the Lake symbol which is the Scatter symbol. The Avalon symbol is denoted by a mysterious island shrouded in darkness. It is worth mentioning that it is the highest awarding symbol in the game and if you manage to match 5 Wild symbols then you will be awarded 30,000 coins on a maximum bet! The other Wild symbol is a Treasure Chest and this will only become wild when the Free Spins feature.

The second feature is the Free Spins game and this is triggered when you land 3 or more Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. You will be given 12 free spins and a 7X multiplier is applied to all wins during this game. Another 12 free spins will be given whenever you hit 3 or more Scatter symbols while this feature is running.

The last feature to mention is the Gamble feature. This triggers when you form a winning combination on the reels and involves guessing the colour of a face down card or guessing the suit of it. If you guess the colour then your win is doubled and if you guess the suit then your win is quadrupled! Theme, Graphics and Sound

The graphics are not out of this world, to be honest, but they relate very well to the theme of the slot. Goblets, chests, crowns, and jewels are used to great effect to show off the riches of Avalon. The symbols are finely detailed and pop along the reels nicely.

The music is quite entrancing with a lady's soothing voice singing in the distance. It is very relaxing and it really sets the atmosphere for this game.

Our Verdict on Avalon

Avalon is made by Microgaming and it's an interesting take on King Arthur as not many have focused on the island of Avalon before.

The graphics may be a bit stale compared to more modern slots these days but the features alone more than makeup for this. A nice idea to use two different Wild symbols and I found myself using the gamble feature quite a bit so make sure to “collect” those winnings when they are high enough!
